Building Wide Area Networks requires technology appropriate for the application, distances and transmission mediums available. Fibre is generally used for high speed long (or short) distance transmission. Wireless technologies are used for mobility, quick establishment of transmission links or setting up communications in sites where access is difficult. Copper is still widely used for high density access , office fit outs (voice, data, video) or local area connectivity. In building WAN communications systems Laminar uses technology from a variety of vendors but namely Haliplex and Cisco.
Haliplex designs flexible and modular Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) products that are the smallest of their kind, and can be deployed as part of an existing or entirely new SONET/SDH network. Haliplex products allow network designers to deploy traditional or next-generation services including bandwidth Ethernet-to-PDH.
CISCO
Cisco equipment is used for routing, Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) fibre optic systems, Storage Area Networking (SAN) and long distance Fibre channel switching. The Cisco ONS 15500 Series is designed for carrying mission-critical storage and data applications over a highly-available metro optical dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) network. The Cisco ONS 15500 Series includes the ONS 15530 DWDM Multiservice Aggregation Platform, ONS 15540 ESPx Extended Services Platform, and ONS 15501 EDFA Optical Solutions Amplifier.
